The first F1 World Championship race was the 1950 British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 13 May 1950.
Damon Hill won the Canadian Grand Prix 1996 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on 16 June 1996, starting from pole position. Jacques Villeneuve finished second for Williams, with Jean Alesi completing the podium for Benetton.
